Reaching my writing goal

Asher can hear not only the first letter in each word but some of the other letters in the word too.  You nearly wrote the word 'farm' perfect!

Achieving My Maths Goal

Today, Asher achieved his Maths Goal of counting, ordering and naming all the numbers to 20.

Next, Asher decided to challenge himself even further and is going to order numbers up to 100.

Way to go Asher!

Sharing Equally

In maths we have been learning about sharing equally.  Today we used pretend pizza bases to help us learn how to share equally into halves and in quarters.  We made pizza toppings with  play dough.  We then shared these toppings equally in halves and in quarters.  We discovered that if you can skip count it sometimes helps to work out how many toppings in each section of the pizza quicker.

Writing Workshop

Asher's current writing goal is to use his resource card when he is writing his stories.  Today in our writing workshop we practised our goal.  First we read the words on the word card.  We then took turns calling out a word from the card then we all wrote it down on our whiteboard.  The tricky part was thinking of a sentence using our word.

Which roller will win the race?

We had a problem.  We were using the rollers in Te Kakano and rolling them around the classroom.  We were a bit loud and the rollers were hitting some of the creations the children were making.  When Mrs Johnson asked us what was our play about we didn't really know but we were having fun!  Mrs Johnson suggested we take the rollers outside.

We had an idea of having some sort of competition to see whose roller could go the furthest.  We soon discovered you had to try to roll the roller straight otherwise it would veer off into the curb.  We also learnt that if you try to roll it to hard it spins.  We used chalk to mark where our roller stopped.

My Snail

Today Asher made a snail at the play dough table. The snails name is Asher.

"I made it out of play dough, paper clips, googly eyes and marbles."

Then Asher made a roller coaster for his snail at the building table.

"I made it out of a big fat piece of wood and small pieces of wood."

Asher thinks he can make the roller coaster better by painting his home.

Music Pattern

For Friday Surprise Day, we continued our exploration into patterns. Today we used music to create a pattern. Can your child explain their pattern? Can you make a new pattern together?
